Cirencester Growth Hub February 2019

Make yourself at home!

Hello from the Growth Hub

We’ve been reading up recently about the pros and cons of working alone. As a co-working space, we’re here to give businesses in the Cirencester area a place where they can work alongside one another, network and collaborate.

But while we know that coworking spaces can be more productive for business people, we were surprised to also learn that they can be better for your health.

According to HR Magazine, working alone is a contributing factor to poor mental health. Of the 1,200 workers surveyed, nearly half (42%) said their job played a significant role in their poor mental health. Significantly, of this 42%, 17.8% said that working alone was a major contributory factor to poor mental health.

At the same time, a poll from last October revealed 52% of satisfied workers collaborate with five or more people in their offices on any given day, and rank “opportunities to work on a collaborative team” as the best way to give their careers a boost.

So we believe that working at the Growth Hub can help combat feelings of loneliness and isolation and lead to business people being more productive.

Caroline McShane, social media consultant at Social Honeycomb, regularly uses Cirencester Growth Hub. She said: “I have found the Growth Hub is a really good place to meet people and to network. The other business people here and the team are all very supportive.”

In other news, we attended the launch of Cirencester Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. Awards are a great way of achieving recognition for your business, provide a PR opportunity, and the application process also gives you a chance to reflect on your successes. We’re pleased to be sponsoring the New Business of the Year Award, and look forward to reading the entries.

Cirencester Growth Hub, next to the Royal Agricultural University, is part of the wider Gloucestershire Growth Hub network. It offers free business support to growing Gloucestershire businesses, including one-to-one advice, workshops and events. Use of the coworking space can be on a pay-as-you go or membership basis.

Free events coming up in February include: Let’s Graze, from 4-5pm on 13th – open to all and a great chance to network; spotlight sessions on finance (5th), PR and copywriting (12th), and marketing (26th); and workshops on social media (6th and 13th), goal-setting (20th); and fit for business (27th).
